How to use the Guide
The www.InvestmentGuide.co.uk is in two parts. Part 1
Contents explains your investment and savings strategy and how your tax
rate determines the type of investment you need to consider. But tax is not
everything. Almost as important is the length of time you wish to hold your
investments. That depends on what you eventually want to do with the money you
have invested. You need to makde some decisions yourself and you may need to
seek investment advice.
Part 2 lists 130 Ways to Invest
The
important points of each investment are detailed on its individual page. Where
you see an entry denoted with the symbol
this means that the
investment is the best value of its type. Most such investments have some UK
tax concession associated with them. All tax rules and advice here relate to UK
residents. Part 2 is listed in the frame on the left of this page. Take
a look or scroll down to read more.

How the companies are chosen
Although
we do not give individual investment advice, many pages list the names of
individual companies for you to choose from. These have been selected according
to individual criteria which vary depending on the particular investment. In
many cases, e.g., unit trusts, pensions, life insurance, personal equity plans,
offshore funds only companies with below average charges are included. In some
cases all companies which offer this type of investment are listed.
Past performance, although widely quoted, is not usually a good indicator for choosing an investment. An exception can be in the very short term when a top performing unit trust or fund in a fashionable sector or market often continues to perform strongly if the market continues to rise.
Banks and building societies, for instance, are those which at the time of going to press, offer the best rate for the particular type of account for the level of investment indicated; where a large society has the same terms as a small one, the small one is not mentioned. These pages also tell you where to get up to date information on the current best building societies and other companies when interest rates change.

Have you wondered how to get the Euro symbol on your word processing program if you don't have a key for it? If you have Windows XP or 98 it's easy - just hold down CTRL and ALT and then press 4 and most recent versions of programs, e.g. Word 97, Outlook Express, will show the Euro.
