Personal Equity Plan

Since 6 April 1999 Personal Equity Plans have been replaced by Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs) which work in a similar way. Existing PEP holdings can remain. Since 6 April 2001 PEPs are no longer restricted to UK and EU securities and can invest in the same investments as ISAs. Also the distinction between Single Company and General PEPs was abolished from that date. Stock Personal Equity Plan invests in UK and/or EU commercial stocks in addition or instead of UK or EU ordinary shares free of all tax. Some plans invest exclusively in stocks, others have a mixture of stocks and shares. To consider the investment merits of a plan invested exclusively in stocks or preference shares, see Stock Convertible Loan, Stock Debenture and Loan, Offshore Stock and Bond Fund, Shares Preference, Unit Trust Stock and Bond Fund.
