Sends, a UK registered fintech supplying payment solutions to both private individuals and companies, joined the Payments Leaders’ Summit UK in London, running from 20 to 21 October. The firm’s chief executive, Alona Shevtsova, led the Women in Business Lunch at the event, assembling leading women across finance, technology and business to explore leadership, career advancement and what the future holds for women working in the sector.
The InterContinental London Park Lane provided the venue for the 20 October gathering, which brought together Maggie Bazemore, Systems Director at Mr & Mrs Smith, and Beatrice Andreea Sava, Senior Strategy Consultant at Edgar, Dunn & Company.
Guided throughout by Alona Shevtsova, the panel discussed the personal and professional journeys behind their leadership, how mentors and networks contribute to career progress, and the scope for women to build careers in sectors that have long been dominated by men.
A recurring theme of the lunch was the changing role women occupy within finance and technology. Although representation has advanced in recent years, participants pointed to challenges that remain, notably at senior leadership and technical levels, and considered the shifts needed to foster more inclusive career routes.
“Leadership is not simply about reaching a certain position. It is about taking responsibility, creating opportunities for others and building an environment where people can grow. Discussions like this are important because they allow us to share real experiences, learn from one another and encourage more women to take an active role in shaping the future of financial services,” stated Alona Shevtsova, CEO of Sends.
Building on its presence in London, Sends aims to keep working alongside the organisers of the Payments Leaders’ Summit at their next gathering scheduled for Dubai in February 2027. The company views the Middle East as a valuable market for cultivating industry relationships and chasing further international cooperation opportunities.
Sends continues to build its presence within the international payments sector. The business confirmed, during October 2026, fresh cooperation with UnionPay International to grow its card issuing and acquiring reach. The move is intended to widen payment options available to Sends customers, while helping merchants connect with a bigger global audience, notably across Asia linked markets.
Sends also remains committed, alongside its international growth efforts, to improving access to financial services for small and medium sized businesses across the UK. The firm has launched a time limited autumn promotion, under which qualifying businesses opening a GBP Business Payment Account can also activate an EUR or USD account free of any extra account opening charge.
