intelliflo‘s acquisition of Mabel Insights hands the advice-technology group full control of the UK’s largest freely accessible database for managed portfolio services (MPS) and multi-asset solutions, folding whole-of-market research and due diligence directly into the workflow advisers use every day. The intelliflo Mabel Insights acquisition completes a transition from commercial partnership, with the two systems already integrated so client details and portfolios move between them without rekeying.

For advisers running discretionary or model-portfolio strategies for clients, the practical change is that Mabel’s portfolio comparison tools, client outcome modelling and branded recommendation reports will no longer sit outside the core platform. Ownership allows intelliflo to invest in proposition development and integration enhancements that a partnership arrangement could not support.

What the intelliflo Mabel Insights acquisition means for advisers

Nick Eatock, CEO and co-founder of intelliflo, said the firm had ‘partnered with Mabel since 2024 and watched advisers come to depend on it as one of the most important research and planning businesses in the advice market.’ He added: ‘As part of intelliflo, we can invest further in Mabel’s functionality and embed it into intelliflo office, giving advisers whole-of-market research and due diligence as a core workflow rather than a separate exercise.’

Lawrence Cook, CEO of Mabel Insights, framed the deal in similar terms: ‘Joining intelliflo lets us take the mission further and faster, with the scale and investment to keep building capability that helps advisers deliver better outcomes.’ The acquisition gives intelliflo free access to Mabel’s tools as a standard offering, removing a cost barrier for smaller advice firms that rely on the platform.

From a Consumer Duty perspective, the integration carries weight. The Financial Conduct Authority expects firms to evidence good client outcomes at every stage of the advice process, and embedded research tools that generate clear, auditable recommendation reports serve that obligation more reliably than fragmented, third-party workflows. intelliflo has stated that the acquisition is part of a broader strategy to lower the cost of delivering advice while raising its quality and consistency.

Ownership context: Carlyle’s agreement to acquire intelliflo

The deal lands at a transitional moment for intelliflo itself. According to Private Banker International, Carlyle has reached an agreement to purchase intelliflo from Invesco for up to $200m, with an initial sum of $135m, slated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2025. That prospective change of ownership adds a layer of uncertainty for advisers evaluating long-term platform dependency, though it also implies fresh capital to support exactly the kind of product investment Eatock has described.

For firms in accumulation phase or approaching drawdown, the prospect of embedding rigorous MPS research into the same system that manages client portfolios and generates suitability documentation is genuinely useful. Sequence-of-returns risk and the need to demonstrate ongoing suitability mean that research quality and workflow integration are not cosmetic concerns; they are central to running a compliant, client-focused business.

That said, any platform dependency carries concentration risk. Advisers who consolidate their research, planning and client management into a single system should weigh the efficiency gains against the operational risk of over-reliance on one provider, particularly during a period when intelliflo’s ownership structure is itself in transition.

Over a three-to-five-year horizon, the direction of travel across UK advice technology is towards tighter integration between research tools and practice-management systems. The intelliflo Mabel Insights acquisition is a step in that direction, and with Carlyle’s proposed backing, the investment runway to build out that capability appears meaningful. Whether the execution matches the ambition will become clearer once the Carlyle transaction, expected in the fourth quarter of 2025, reaches completion.
